The Vegetable Support HORTOMALLAS® trellis net is used for training and as a means of support for vegetables.

To train vegetable plants, it is very common to use a HORTOMALLAS® plastic trellis net.

In melon cultivation, the trellis net, in addition to increasing planting density, helps prevent the spread of diseases found in damp soil.

This replaces the traditional agricultural twine because this innovative system saves time (field worker days) and reduces the mechanical transmission of plant pathogens.

The trellis net acts as a natural support, allowing tendrils or branches of the plants to find in its structure the natural support they would find in nature, be it a dry branch of a shrub or the guides of a tree or a bamboo or otate cane. This passive system requires less contact with the workers’ hands, which not only translates into lower operating costs but also reduces the incidence of workers’ hands coming into contact with the plants. This minimizes the chance of contact with an infected hand and gradually infecting the entire crop as they proceed with training and guiding tasks, which does happen with twine.

The use of the trellis net allows for a reduction in labor and makes pruning and harvesting tasks more efficient.

In tomato cultivation, it is recommended to use the double-row trellis net, so the plant finds better support for its branches.

The HORTOMALLAS® net works perfectly with solanaceous plants like tomatoes (jitomate) and peppers or chilies when used as a double-wall trellis net system. Also, when used with cucurbits, the net…

The double-row trellis net is also recommended for crops such as peppers, chilies, and aji peppers, as this system provides them with better support and makes pruning and harvesting tasks more efficient.

HORTOMALLAS® is the perfect support and guide for tendrils to latch onto the structure.

It is often believed that this plant growth mesh is made of polyester, although it is actually produced from bi-stretched or bioriented polypropylene. It is used as support for climbing plants and as part of a cucumber staking system and a perch for training tomatoes, replacing agricultural twine, which is a guiding thread for plants used both in open fields and as twine for greenhouses.

Those interested in perfecting the training technique using this guiding mesh for climbers are advised to download this training manual.
