Cultivation technique applying Sog Netting
There are two popular methods of growing hemp: the first one is called SOG – sea of green – and uses Sog Netting as a mean of support. The second one is called SCROG – screen of green – and uses Scrog Netting to guide the plants. Herein we will talk about the SOG method.
SOG growing method. What is SOG about?
The SOG or “Sea of Green” method consists in growing many small plants in a indoor reduced space or larger outdoor areas. The plants are allowed to grow only a few days until flowering is induced. As a result the plants do not produce lateral branches and thus limit their growth in vertical. In fact they grow very quickly and are soon filled with outbreaks. This method is highly appreciated by commercial growers looking to get the highest quality in a short time. Thanks to the SOG technique, the flowering space is maximized and production is increased.
Nevertheless if you want to apply this method, it is advisable to choose a variety that produces a central robust stem and few lateral branches, which does not grow very vertically and that blooms in a short time.
The SOG netting MALLAJUANA, applied directly on the plants, or fixed on a structure, helps to maintain the plants erect and to cultivate with a greater intensity. In the flowering stage, the weight of the foliage increases and the SOG netting acts as an ideal support.
In addition, the design of SOG netting MALLAJUANA is perfect for guiding the branches so more leaves are exposed to light. The SOG Netting can also be used to train plants and to reinforce the stems. As soon as the main stem is attached to the HORTOMALLAS trellis, and thanks to a hormonal process of the plant, it grows thicker.
Thanks to the SOG Netting HORTOMALLAS, the branches remain adequately and evenly spaced, maximizing the amount of light that each one receives. In addition, it favors the air circulation, which is especially important in humid and densely cultivated environments. Indeed in the humidity, some varieties are vulnerable to parasites and mold and they develop more diseases: fungi and virus.
Advantages of the SOG method
Sea of Green cultivation offers many advantages over other methods. In particular it helps to obtain high quality harvest easily and in a short time.
- Reduced cultivation time.
- Harvest in faster times.
- Maximum space performance.
- Maximum crop uniformity.
- Ideal for plants of low heights and of rapid development.
Disadvantages of SOG Method
Here are the main disadvantages of the SOG technique.
- High maintenance requirements.
- Only clones can be used.
- Intense lights are required.
- Legal issues relating to extensive areas of cultivation.
Advantages of using the SOG Netting
SOG Netting MALLAJUANA is ideal for optimizing hemp plants production. Its structure is appropriate for plants to be guided through the square meshes.
It is made of high density polyethylene which gives it strength and durability. Its flexibility allows it to adapt to any type and size of crop. It is easy to cut to resize as required. It is economical because it is durable and can be reused in different crop cycles. SOG netting does not attract bacteria because it is not made of filaments like other nets.
